Excellent. If/when you get a reply from Fenlon, can you print it? In any sane world he would respond and retract immediately. If this doesn't happen, I want to know, I am willing to write to him or the Ombudsman. Barton's statements cant be allowed to stand. Thanks.
Btw I am quite serious about getting a response. Please, IF you don't get one, please advise, and I will act to write them. This can't be allowed to stand. The MSM has done enough damage to Canada, its morale and reputation already with the grave error narrative and this can't go on.
Thank you for a great article. I have the same feelings about this one-sided biased, left-wing reporting by the CBC. I no longer want my tax money going to support people who speak their opinion without facts, who want to censor anyone with a different opinion, and reveal violent tendencies if they don’t get their way. These are not serious people and neither is the government who bribes their allegiance.
The fact is that without alternative media Canadians would still be out looking for evil priests burying indigenous children in apple orchards. Even Terry Glavin’s Year of the Graves didn’t come out until a year after the claim (meanwhile we had been saying the same thing for a year) and he got the indigenous part wrong. Maybe Ezra and Candace aren’t to everyone’s taste. So what. They can hold their noses while they listen to important stories that CBC won’t report on
This- exactly. Candace and Ezra are certainly not to my taste. I am a long time centre left type but I know facts matter and blood libels are dangerous. I am so dismayed that "my people " are so unwilling to take the logs out of our own eyes.
Humphrey also challenged Barton on X for calling her a liar, and told her to prove it by proving her claim that actual bodies were found. Of course sneaky Barton never said bodies were found...just remains... which is also sneaky lie, which are the worst. Its the same sneaky lie from the First Nations Bands that started it all.... Remains 'detected' by ground penetrating radar... which they didn't mention is not capable of identifying anything other than anomalies in the soil that could possibly be human remains, but could also be animal remains, sewers, septic fields. garbage and just about anything else that might disturb the soil.
So of course Barton did respond to Humphrey because she knows that there are no bodies.... that have ever been found, because not a single sight where claims have been made have been excavated. And the writer is quite right as well, that in some of these actual graveyards that were found at residential school sites there would be bodies, because they are, in fact, graveyards, and native children did die in residential schools often from TB and other diseases that were fatal at the time, just like white children died in many areas of the country at that time. My dad's youngest sister for example... died of pneumonia at age three in 1925. And yes many graves would be unmarked by now, because they were marked with wooden crosses that would eventually disappear.
CBC was the one who perpetuated this lie from the get go by first claiming that mass graves had been found... until someone with a brain pointed out that a 'mass grave' was something where bodies of hundreds usually killed in some type f execution style manner like Jews during the Holocaust are loaded into a deep pit for buried all at once. CBC embarrassingly had to retract that mass grave bullshit, but it was too late, it had already embarrassed Canada internationally because the story made headlines around the world and managed to get it labelled as a genocidal country which our then virtue signalling idiot PM Trudeau happily endorsed.
The CBC has actually reported on 4 excavations where there were suspected clandestine burials of indigenous people (youth and adult). These digs took place at two former residential schools (Pine Creek and Shubenacadie) and two former hospitals (the Victoria Hospital in Montreal and the Campsell Hospital in SK). None of these digs revealed human remains. There is a CBC documentary on the Pine Creek excavation. It is very interesting to watch an elder be relieved while Chief Nepinak struggles to accept the truth.
Thank you, I did not know that. I don't watch CBC documentaries anymore because they have become so biased and often dishonest. Occasionally, I guess they can still do something good. This, however, would mean the Rosemary knew fully well that no remains, no bodies had ever been found... yet she chose to misrepresent that in order to undermine Drea Humphrey's question and essentially call her a liar.
No worries. I am keeping a spreadsheet of media coverage of excavations. The excavations seem to have stopped now, which I suspect is because they disprove the narrative. The problem now (in my view) is how to walk back the accusations without starting a new round of revenge in the opposite direction.
As to whether or not Ms. Barton fully understands the lack of evidence, we can't say without speaking to her. While the trend suggests no clandestine burials will be found, 4 sites is not many. It is still possible (although highly unlikely) that graves will be found.
Journalists can not know everything but I do think they have a professional obligation to be skeptical of their sources and dominant narratives. The CBC is absolutely failing in that regard.
So- now I look at your profile and see you are a retired journalist and vet. My apologies for preaching to the choir.
Also, FYI, my husband is a veteran who served in Rwanda in 1994. Part of my very deep concern on this issue comes from his experiences there. The danger of blood libels and retribution merry go rounds is very real to us. I hope the people perpetuating the (so far, and most likely) baseless clandestine burials narrative don't have to find out the hard way just how dangerous a game they are playing.
Thank you and you are not preaching I value your perspective. I truly did not know about the excavations. That must have been a terrible experience for your husband to experience the bloodshed there in Rwanda, I cannot imagine. The closest I came to serving a tour internationally was during the first Iraq war. I was on the list for call up, but then the war ended. As for Barton, as far as I am concerned it is her job to know the status of that issue because it was a very big story that embarrassed Canada internationally, largely due to CBC's reporting on it. And it is certainly her job to know if she is going to make baseless statements to call out someone else for spreading 'misinformation'. As I said, quite a number of very credible journalist have investigated the 'unmarked graves' allegations and found them to be baseless. And as noted, in some of these sites, they are likely to find bodies, because they are or were actual cemeteries where the grave markers have disappeared. Yes, children died in residential schools, often from TB which was rampant back then. I'll stop ranting about Rosemary now, but I don't have much respect for her.
I take your point and stand corrected. While I don't expect every journalist to know alot about every issue, when I consider Ms. Barton's profile and the profile of the issue, you are right that she should know more.
I do find the CBC incredibly irresponsible on this issue. While they quietly publish nil findings, they should at the very least be hearing from credible sources like Glavin, Green, Stirling, etc.
These are highly relevant questions. The Greens and NDP have implementing the TRC and MMIW recommendations in their platforms. I am dismayed to learn this was the reason for canceling the scrum after the English debate. This does not bode well for our democracy!
That was the Commission excuse to cancel the scrum, and may have partly been the reason. But it was also because of Carney's less than stellar performance and the knock out punch Poilievre gave him in the end when Carney stupidly decided to bring up the issue of Poilievre very reasonable and logical explanation for not acquiescing to the Liberal's terms around it which essentially was a gag order that could result in prosecution for breaking it. Independent media would have had a field day taking Carney apart for that and the Liberals couldn't have that.
McKenna is an idiot. It never ceases to amaze me how there are so many stupid people with law degrees. But then again they do get numerous three and in some cases four chances to pass the BAR exam, so I guess that says it all. Even a broken clock is right twice a day. I sure as hell hope that ain't the case for doctors.
I am very grateful for your work, thank you for your careful and courageous attention on this huge "story". The opportunity to "walk together" in Canada is being mismanaged on purpose. It's a feature, not a bug.

Total respect, ladies, for this interesting back and forth. Thank you for your pleasant way of communicating with each other! A breath of fresh air

jeebus, McKenna's tweets are scary shit.

Take a good look st the pictures of Barton. That is what a true racist looks like
Bullshit
